Over the past few weeks, as the new year approaches, we’ve been taking a look back at the best hardware and software releases of 2017. For each category, we take a look at a handful of notable releases, then determine which one is the best in its class.
Today, I wanted to talk about some of the biggest tech trends that emerged in 2017, and what it means for 2018.
A Look Back At the 2017 Cyon Awards: A blog recap on year’s biggest hardware and software releases.
2017 has been a great year for the Cyon Family. With new products and releases in smartphones, tablets, laptops, desktops, gaming consoles and more, there’s been no shortage of excitement. We’ve seen new innovations from some of our favorite brands like Apple and Microsoft, as well as newer companies like Google and Uber. And we’ve seen a number of hardware refreshes that have kept us on the edge of our seats.
So now it’s time to reward the best products and releases of 2017 with our annual Cyon Awards. This year we’ve got 8 categories covering both hardware and software. We’ve weighed each category based on a number of factors including design, performance, usability and the ability to innovate. So without further ado, here are your winners!
The Cyon Awards is a yearly ceremony in the hardware and software industry celebrating the most innovative products of the year. It’s hosted by Cyon Research LLC, a company that specializes in product design, engineering and manufacturing research.
This year’s ceremony was held in Las Vegas on December 2nd. WTS World News was there to bring you the highlights of the event. Here are a few of our favorites.
Cyon Award for best new hardware: Apple iMac Pro. The new iMac Pro is one of the most powerful computers out there. It features an all-in-one design with a 27 inch 5k display that has P3 wide color gamut and 500 nits brightness. It also comes with an 8 core Intel Xeon processor and AMD Radeon Pro Vega 56 graphics card.
Cyon Award for best new software: Adobe Photoshop CC 2018. This version of Photoshop offers several new features including a new interface, streamlined workflow and improved compatibility with other software. The program also has better tools for working with HDR images and 360 degree photos or videos, which makes it easier to create high quality content for virtual reality devices like Oculus Rift or HTC Vive headsets._
The 2017 Cyon Awards are in the books, and what a show it was. After months of hard work, AMD’s Ryzen CPU line was rewarded with a well-deserved award for “Best CPU,” while Apple’s new MacBook Pro was recognized with “Best Laptop.” Meanwhile, Google won the “Best Smartphone” award for its Pixel XL phone.
This year’s awards saw an interesting mix of winners and losers. On one hand, you have Apple’s MacBook Pro winning best laptop, which is something of a dark horse pick considering the notebook has been widely criticized since its release. Apple also won big this year with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus winning “Best Smartphone” and “Best Phone Camera,” respectively. But on the other hand you have Samsung’s Galaxy S8+ winning “Most Innovative Design” in spite of its controversial Bixby button.
As always, there were some surprises among the winners. The biggest might be Razer’s Blade laptop winning “Most Innovative Design.” Considering how far we’ve come with mobile computing, it might seem strange to consider a laptop innovative in any way. However, Razer has managed to do just that by cramming high-end gaming hardware into a sleek package that doesn’t look like a gaming
The Cyon Awards are one of the most highly anticipated events in the tech industry, and this years awards were no exception. The event was held at the Hotel Park Hyatt in San Francisco and featured some of the biggest names in technology, including Google CEO Eric Schmidt, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, and Facebook CEO Sheryl Sandberg.
For those unfamiliar with the event, each year a panel of judges consisting of industry experts, venture capitalists, and entrepreneurs select the winners from a list of nominees from across the entire technology landscape. This years winners included several big names such as Apple for their HomePod smart speaker and Amazon for their Echo smart speaker.
The annual Cyon Awards are held every year to recognize excellence in the areas of software, hardware, and services.
2017 was a great year for computer hardware.
Computer hardware is the physical parts of a computer, as distinguished from the computer software that executes or runs on the hardware. The hardware of a computer is infrequently changed, while software and data are modified frequently. Computer hardware includes the physical parts or components of a computer, such as the central processing unit, monitor, keyboard, computer data storage, graphic card, sound card and motherboard.
Laptop computers are very similar to desktops in terms of hardware. The main difference is portability. Desktops have more computing power than laptops. Laptops are for those who need to move around with their workstations.
Yet another year has come and gone, and as we look back on 2017, there’s much to reflect on.
With the rise of artificial intelligence and machine learning, it was one of the most eventful years in the history of software engineering. From Apple’s A11 Bionic chip through Google’s Pixel 2 to Amazon’s Alexa, countless software advancements were made that will impact society for years to come.
But let’s not forget about hardware!
Hardware engineers had a big year, too. We saw the introduction of several new system-level instruction set architectures that will greatly improve microprocessor performance going forward. We also saw the continued evolution of neural networking hardware (NPUs) with the launch of Google’s TPUv2 and Qualcomm’s Zeroth chip. Finally, we saw massive improvements in storage density and I/O speed that will enable us to process data faster than ever before.
In this blog post, I’ll recap some of the biggest hardware developments of 2017 with links to more information if you’re interested in learning more about them.
